THE NEAR WITCH!! Or at least the first couple pages…

You guys. It’s not much. It’s not a whole first chapter yet. It’s not a cover.

It is a reading of the opening pages.

It is the first time I’ve gotten to share part of the book.

It is TERRIFYING. Me, that is. It is terrifying ME.

  1. I absolutely LOVE the narrator’s voice. I might be biased–being English myself–but it is so beautiful.

I can’t wait for THE NEAR WITCH to be published. Just this glimpse into it was amazing. πŸ™‚

  2. C.J. Redwine says:

I’m now totally captivated. Nice job!

  3. Gnesis says:

I loved it! πŸ™‚ I didn’t like the narrators voice much because it seemed old and raspy like an old lady’s though it fit when the story of the witch was being told.

  4. Linda G. says:

Oh, you gave me the shivers! You have a beautifully mature reading voice.

Can’t wait to read the whole book! πŸ™‚

  5. Kim Mills says:

This is awesome. I really like the teaser you just threw at us! Can’t wait to hear/read more.

  6. IT’S VICTORIA’S MAMA! And it made me CRY!

  7. Linda G. says:

Ooops. I thought she sounded a little different. In any case, it was beautifully read. πŸ™‚

  8. Susan Adrian says:

Ah, lovely. I was so happy to hear your mom’s voice read it!

  9. Oh, I love it. And I love the narrators voice. It fit a perfect with the tone I imagine for your story. I can’t wait to hear more. She should definitely do the audio book–perfect listening for a crisp autumn day. πŸ™‚

  10. Unbelievable.

I cannot wait for this book.

Also, your mother sounds like a professional actress. Just so you know.

  11. Nadine says:

Loved it!! I’m totally intrigued and can’t wait to hear/read more! Looking forward to August next year – only 11 months left, eek!

  12. PRETTY. FREAKING. AWESOME. Yay, Victoria! I’m so excited for you!

  13. ok…*clears throat*….I NEED THIS BOOK. LIKE NOW. I know I’m going to love this already and I’m not wrong about these things. That was just mesmerising, you should totally get your mum to read for the audiobook.

You can take this one of two ways but V, how do you make wind sound soooo interesting? I love it πŸ™‚

  14. sajidah says:

Wow – sounds like the beginnings of a soon-to-be classic. Can’t wait to read this.

  15. Norman says:

This is the good stuff. I don’t often get the opportunity to read some great literature. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t get out much or if it’s ’cause good books are hard to find. I ditto the praise for the narrator’s voice. Your mom does sound like a professional. I wonder how much of it is Americans’ infatuation with the Queen’s English :). Either way, I can’t get enough of it. I’m embarrassed to say how disappointed I was when the video ended. Anyway, I’m going to see if I can pre-order the book now and add you to my “Authors to Read” list. I haven’t heard fantasy told this well since Neil Gaiman’s “The Graveyard Book.” You are a true talent.

    • veschwab says:

Norman, wow, you made my whole night. The Graveyard Book is one of my absolute favorites! Neil Gaiman, for that matter, is one of my favorite authors. The compliment you do me, therefore, by even mentioning him, is extreme. I’m so incredibly glad that you enjoyed the opening, and hope that you enjoy the rest of the book when it hits shelves later this year! You’ll have to let me know πŸ™‚
