Happenings in Victorialand

In between tennis matches (edits), and this is what’s on my plate:

-Planning my next vlog for the YA Rebels, in which I actually have to talk about something :p Really excited though! Our 2nd week is going to be so much fun (for us at least, we hope you have fun, too!)

-Working on the website. Yes, the one I mentioned MONTHS ago. It will be done. One day.

-Working on trailer. This too will be done. One day.

-I’m taking a southern lit course!

-Obsessively checking Goodreads, Twitter, FB, etc. It’s a problem, but I like to call it a “fascination” because it sounds less like obsession and more like curiosity.

-TV show: Chuck. Hey, that show is actually REALLY addictive.

-TV comes back this week! This makes me happy because it’s the only way I know what day it is. Consequently all through the holidays I thought it was Saturday. Please don’t feel the need to tell me how pathetic this is :p

-I’ve come to the realization that I need things in my life that are deliberately NOT writing. Because writing isn’t such a great break from writing, and so much of writing is waiting, and it’s too easy for me to drive myself crazy either waiting or trying to write while waiting on other writing and you see how this can all go on and on until you feel slightly dizzy.

-To end on a positive writing note: I finally feel like I understand my characters. You might be saying, “But V, shouldn’t you have gotten to that point many ages ago?” And the answer is no. I *tried* to understand them, and got to the point of auras and shadows and vague notions of their wants and motives, but have really struggled to GET them, to answer the fundamental questions of what it is they want, in life, in the story, etc. I finally feel like I understand, and if I could put into words the HOPE that this understanding fills me with, I would.

  1. Chuck is back in time for my birthday!!! *happy dance of joy*
Seriously, my favorite show on TV. Followed by Castle & Glee & Psych. But Chuck is #1 because Chuck is awesome. (Okay, well, Awesome is awesome, but so’s Chuck).
You shouldn’t have said the c-word, I get very gibberish-y…
Also, I totally get your last comment there. I feel like the only set of my characters I really know inside-out are the ones I’ve been working with since 2002. The other ones I mostly know– they’re like good friends or co-workers I’ve worked with for years, but they can still totally surprise me with something I didn’t know about them. Glad you’re there! It’s a great feeling. πŸ™‚

Castle, Lie to Me, and Chuck are my favorites right now!!
It was an amazing feeling, finally understanding the two characters, like a wave of relief and happiness at once πŸ™‚

  3. I hear you on the TV thing – I have the same problem. And to top things off, they’re moving some shows around on me (like WHITE COLLAR), which will just make things that much trickier for me until I work out the new schedule!

Sympathies on the “things in life that aren’t writing” front. I’ve been trying to fix that for like a year and failing miserably. No matter what hobby I try to take up, I just gravitate back to driving myself nuts with the writing.

It’s embarrassing! But it really does help me keep track of the days :p

  6. veschwab says:

I keep trying! And I keep finding myself back at writing! Why can’t I learn that writing is not always a suitable break from writing??

Chuck got renewed??? I . LOVE. THAT SHOW. Its made by the same dude who did The OC which is my favorite show ever. srsly.
Also I’m interested in learning what your southern lit course is like and what you are reading/learning… πŸ™‚

Im so excited for you bb that your characters have let you ‘see’ them! I know I speak for all when I say we cannot wait to meet them!
I am dying for Greys Anatomy to come back…pathetic I know. And Season Two of Being Erica πŸ™‚
When my kids were small I relied on Playschool and Sesame Street to tell me what day it was….

I didn’t discover Chuck until a few weeks ago! And then I got promptly addicted. The season premiere is two hours tonight!! JOY.
I’ll keep you posted on the class. I just wanted to take a class really badly, and I figured there’d be no risk of stress/distraction/overlap with my writing if I did southern gothic lit :p

  10. veschwab says:

I am so incredibly excited and terrified to share them with you bb πŸ™‚ But yes, huge relief that they’re finally revealing a bit of themselves.
I adored Grey’s Anatomy, just lost track of it in school when time got tight and I had to make show cuts :p
